Suck-Up Season Has Commenced

The other day, I was walking in to work. Fashionably late, of course. I think it's a great idea to stroll in at 9:45 in the morning – really demonstrates the kind of go-getter you are.

Anyway, I happened to notice someone I went to law school with sitting by the Starbucks at a long table full of Young People in Black Suits. She never liked me very much, although it took me overly long to realize that...she gives me these LOOKS at strategic moments that tell me how very utterly inappropriate I am. I received one such look as I neared her, which I can only imagine was predicated by the combination of my late arrival and the fact that I wasn't wearing a suit. Bitch.

She returned to talking to the Black Suits – I caught something about, "Of course, that's Mexico!" And then the suit people burst out laughing. Long, loud, that's the FUNNIEST THING THEY EVER HEARD IN THE WORLD OMG laughter. This woman is a lot of things, but funny is not one of them...especially when the topic is "that's Mexico!" It didn't make any sense.

And then I remembered...summer associate season has begun. It's true, no one will ever find you as funny as the person who has to spend weeks on end trying to convince you to give them a job.

So glad those days are over!
