Iowa: Root of All Evil?
Witness:
1. Iowa is the first state to hold its caucus.
2. Politicians, whether or not they're currently running for president, pander to Iowa.
3. Iowa is full of corn farmers.
4. Corn farmers love ethanol.
5. Politicians love ethanol.
6. Corn, a major food crop, has been turned into a fuel source.
7. Food prices increase.
8. Ethanol reduces fuel efficiency.
9. Fuel prices increase.
10. All prices increase.
11. ERGO: Recession!

Also, it takes more than a gallon of fuel to make a gallon of ethanol, so ethanol doesn't make sense. I've heard the number is 10 gallons to 1 gallon, which I find hard to believe, but with subsidies, I can see how farmers can make a profit "spending" 2 gallons of fuel to make one.
